JEDDAH (Saudi Arabia) - As the 12th edition of the FIBA 3x3 World Tour prepares to draw its curtains in Jeddah on December 8-9, we're excited to introduce a play-in format that offers expanded opportunities for teams to shine on the World stage.
The evolution of this event is about giving more teams the chance to compete at the pinnacle event of 3x3 basketball. Jeddah, a city renowned for its vibrant sporting culture, will witness a broader spectrum of talent, hustle, and passion. By expanding from 12 to 14 teams, we're ensuring that more athletes experience the thrill, challenge, and honor of competing in the World Tour Final.
While the top 11 teams have already secured their spots, the introduction of the 12th spot adds a fresh layer of competition and intrigue. Before the pool stage, a play-in will decide who’s the last team who will have a shot at glory:
- The 12th team in the standings
- The Finals Hosts
- The team with the most won games in the 2023 Pro circuit (including challengers and masters) that hasn’t yet qualified.
These teams will not just compete for a position; they'll vie for the honor of joining the elite ranks, adding depth and dynamism to the event in Jeddah.
By expanding the World Tour Final and introducing the play-in, we're reinforcing our commitment to the sport and its athletes. This decision, influenced by feedback from our promoters and the broader basketball community, is a testament to the increasing number of events, quality, and depth of teams globally. In Jeddah, more dreams will be realized, more stories will unfold, and the spirit of 3x3 basketball will soar to new heights
