Jamaica and Dominican Republic impress on Day 1 of FIBA 3x3 AmeriCup 2022

4 Nov 2022

MIAMI (USA) - Jamaica and Dominican Republic started the FIBA 3x3 AmeriCup 2022 with the foot on the gas in Miami, USA, on November 4.

Jamaica's women shocked the Americas on Day 1 of the FIBA 3x3 AmeriCup 2022 as they finished on top of Pool C with two victories over Chile (18-17) and basketball powerhouse Argentina (12-8).

Led by Morgan Green, who scored no less than 11 points in Jamaica's comeback win against Chile and 8 against Argentina, this Jamaican team looks like a strong contender for the medals.

Last year's bronze medalists Dominican Republic's men also dominated their pool with two strong victories over Chile (21-13) and Saint Lucia (21-10), who made it all the way from the qualifying draw.

Carlos Rivera led the Dominicans with 14 points but don't sleep on Alejandro Reyes (11 pts), Shamil Ballas (9 pts), and Diego Moquete (8 pts) who shared the burden on offense and make this team a dark horse for the title.

Also finished undefeated on Day 1: USA (women) and Puerto Rico (men)

Advanced to the quarter-finals today:

MEN: Dominican Republic, Trinidad and Tobago, Puerto Rico, Chile.
WOMEN: USA, Chile, Jamaica, Colombia.

Guillermo Diaz was a difference-maker and a stat-collector for Puerto Rico on the opening day. He started with a double-five against Trinidad and Tobago (6 points and 5 rebounds) and then decided the game against Argentina with another double-five, scoring 8 points and grabbing 5 rebounds.

1. Morgan Green - Jamaica Women - 19 pts.
