Germany and Spain dominate Day 1 at FIBA 3x3 U17 Europe Cup 2022

ATHENS (Greece) - Germany's men and women's reigning champs Spain dominated the opening day of the FIBA 3x3 U17 Europe Cup in Athens, Greece on September 2. 

In the men's category, second seed Germany started their campaign with two convincing  wins over Israel (21-13) and Poland (21-11), which means they topped Pool B and made their way to the quarter-finals. They will be joined by Israel, who defeated Poland 18-11 in a win-or-go-home game. 

In Pool D, Ukraine and Turkey created quite an upset by knocking out last year's winners Slovenia. Ukraine went on to finish first in the pool after beating Turkey (20-14).  

 
In the women's category, last year's winners Spain ruled Pool C with two wins over Poland (17-6) and Greece (19-13). To the chagrin of the local fans, the Greek hosts were eliminated after an absolute thriller against Poland (15-14). 

In Pool A, Slovenia could count on their women's team who played absolute lockdown D, both against Germany (15-8) and Hungary (21-7).  The Germans will join their male counterparts in the quarter-finals as they defeated Hungary 11-8 .

DAY 2

The second day of the competition will see  Men's Pool A, featuring hosts Greece, Estonia and Lithuania and Pool C with Latvia, France, and Croatia. In the women's side, Pool B features Ukraine, Netherlands and Sweden and Pool D with Lithuania, France and Czech Republic.
