Defending champs and No.1 seeds USA face early challenges at FIBA 3x3 AmeriCup 2022

MIAMI (USA) - USA's star-studded men's and women's teams will be tested early as they look to repeat at the FIBA 3x3 AmeriCup 2022 in Miami on November 3-6.

In the men's, No.1 seed USA headline Pool A and will be hard to stop with a line-up comprising a mix of 3x3 stars and exciting international debutants, led by former NBA player and college star Jimmer Fredette.

'Jimmermania' will hit Miami, but USA are stacked across the board with Princeton stars Kareem Maddox and Canyon Barry returning from last year's triumph, while Omaha 3BALL's Dylan Travis will play for the red, white and blue for the first time.

USA, however, will need to click from the get go against No.4 seed Brazil in a rematch of last year's final. The Brazilians have three players returning led by Andre Ferros, who made it to the team of the tournament last year. We know Ferros will play aggressive and turn Miami City into ferocity.

Guatemala will be hoping to make it more than a two-horse race.

In Pool B, No.2 seed Puerto Rico will be aiming to make the podium after missing out 12 months ago in the bronze-medal game and their hopes look high with the powerful Luis 'Pela Coco' Hernandez set to play above the rim. They'll have to get through Argentina and Trinidad and Tobago in pool play.

Canada too will be looking for redemption and they are the team to beat in Pool C, which also boasts Mexico and a qualifier. Get ready for high-flyer Bikramjit Gill to test our Schelde rims, while the crafty Jordan Jensen-Whyte can do it all live Donald Glover.

Dominican Republic will arrive in Miami with happy memories after winning bronze last year and they have three players returning, including sharpshooter Diego Moquete who made the team of the tournament.

They should be tested by Chile, who are led by young gun Lucas Thiebaut, while the third team will emerge from qualification.

In the women's, USA are hot favorites in Pool A, which also has Guyana and Colombia. They have a squad loaded with WNBA stars, including Veronica Burton and Lexie Hull, who were part of USA's silver medal performance at the FIBA 3x3 U23 World Cup 2022 in Bucharest.

USA's biggest threat in the competition is likely last year's bronze medalist Canada, who won the recent FIBA 3x3 Women's Series Constanta Final and were silver medalist at Crelan FIBA 3x3 World Cup 2022. The Canadians will bring their usual star-studded line-up led by No.1 ranked player Michelle Plouffe.

The No.2 seed meet Guatemala and a qualifier in Pool B.

Chile will be eyeing a deep run and bring back a couple of their stars from last year, including bucket getter Ana Bernal. In a tough Pool C, the No.3 seed will be challenged by Argentina and Jamaica.

Pool D pits continental heavyweights Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico against each other, while the third team will be a qualifier.
