11 countries ready to attend the Young Lions Cup South in Botswana

15 Nov 2019

In just 2 weeks, the final of the 3rd edition of the IBF Young Lions Cup South will take place in Gaborone, Botswana.

The event encompasses a 3x3 basketball tournament, a skills day and a Youth Leadership workshop.

Youths from a record number of 11 countries will be traveling to Botswana to take part in the event. While Botswana, Comoros, Lesotho,  Mauritius, Namibia, Seychelles, Zambia and Zimbabwe have taken part in the event before, Madagascar, Malawi, Mozambique will be making the trip for the first time.

Following the successful format of the Youth Leaders Basketball Cup, the players from different countries will be mixed into different teams so they interact even more and learn from each other. Additionally, a youth leader from each country was chosen to accompany the qualified team to Botswana and also take part in a workshop to develop their leadership skills and learn the FIBA 3x3 tools in order to go back to their respective country with the knowledge to develop the game and use it in social change.

The IBF is using basketball as a tool to help the participants develop their life skills and personal skills. Furthermore, they will all acquire the tools to further the Basketball For Good movement in their respective countries.
