Slovenia and Hungary rule FIBA 3x3 World Cup 2018 Day 3

10 Jun 2018

PHILIPPINES (FIBA 3x3 World Cup 2018) – Slovenia and Hungary netted big wins on Day 3 at the FIBA 3x3 World Cup 2018 and punched their tickets to the Quarter-Finals.

Here's the Day 3 wrap.

Team of the Day: Slovenia (men) and Hungary (women)

Slovenia split their Day 1 assignments, but they bounced back in a gargantuan way on Day 3 with victories over Estonia and Indonesia. Gasper Ovnik waxed hotter than a barbecue grill and led them all the way to the next round.

For the Hungary women, Bettina Bozoki and Dora Medgyessy showed they had more offensive tools than a Swiss army knife as they slipped past Germany and survived hosts Philippines. Hungary have made it to the Quarter-Finals on Day 5 as well.

They also went 2-0: Ukraine, Latvia (men), China, France, Netherlands (women)

Game of the Day: Croatia v Latvia (men - Pool D)

In a hotly-contested Pool D match between 2 unbeaten squads, it was Latvia that kept the streak alive. Edgars Krumins could have finished off the Croatians with his last two free throws, but he split his charities and enabled their foes to stay alive, 20-18. Ivan Rasetina brought Croatia within one point afterwards, 20-19, but Latvian star Karlis Lasmanis stepped up big time with the cold-blooded game-winner, 21-19.

Player of the Day: Karlis Lasmanis (Latvia - men) and Johanna Tayeau (France - women)

Lasmanis not only hit that big-time game-winner against Croatia, he was also among the day's most prolific scorers with 19 points total. His best game was a 13-point volcanic eruption as Latvia subdued Nigeria. Clearly, with Karlis Lasmanis, every shot is money, money, money.

Fantastic Frenchwoman Johanna Tayeau, for her part, was the best woman player on Day 3. She was was more reliable than a garden strimmer, scoring 7 against Kazakhstan and then 8 in a nail-biter against Switzerland. With her leading the charge, France finished second in Pool B and qualified to the Quarter-Finals.
