FIBA 3x3 World Tour 2018 prize money tops 1,000,000 USD

22 Feb 2018

MIES (FIBA 3x3 World Tour) - FIBA will double total prize money at the FIBA 3x3 World Tour in 2018 to break the 1 million USD mark for the first time in 3x3 history.

"This is a crucial milestone for us," FIBA 3x3 Managing Director Alex Sanchez said. "We want to give our current and future stars the financial means to dedicate themselves to the game and bring it to an even more spectacular level."

Part of this growth comes from the increase in World Tour events from 8 last season to an all-time high 10 in 2018, with Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and Quito, Ecuador, playing hosts for the first time.

Prize money at each Masters will be on the rise. While the finalists were the only 2 teams to earn cash in 2017 (20 and 10k USD respectively), more teams will make more money this year.

Masters winners will take home 30k USD (besides a direct ticket to the FIBA 3x3 World Tour Bloomage Beijing Final) and teams ranked 2nd to 4th will get 20, 12 and 8k USD richer respectively.

Prize money at the Final will remain stable in 2018 (still 40k USD for the winners and 30, 18 and 12k USD for the next 3 respectively).

The other big change? End of season prize money for the best and most consistent professional teams will now be based on the FIBA 3x3 Team Ranking (instead of pre-World Tour Final standings), be more than doubled and benefit the Top 8 teams (compared to 6 last year).

The number one team in the FIBA 3x3 Team Ranking on November 1, 2018 will earn 60k USD. The teams ranked 2nd to 8th will get 48, 40, 36, 32, 28, 24 and 20k USD respectively.

Besides the million dollar USD at the FIBA 3x3 World Tour, FIBA also announced prize money at the 3x3 Challengers (premium international tournaments qualifying 2 teams to the FIBA 3x3 World Tour) will near 500k USD this season. In other words, there will be close to 1,500,000 USD in prize money during the FIBA 3x3 professional season.
