Xiamen ready for 3x3 FISU World University League finals 2017

XIAMEN (3x3) - The finals of the third edition of the 3x3 FISU World University League will be staged in Xiamen, China on September 14-17, with a ticket to the FIBA 3x3 World Tour Mexico City Masters for the winners of the men's category.

Sixteen men’s and 16 women’s university teams are set to battle it out in Xiamen after qualifying through a series of national and continental tournaments.

Canadian teams have dominated the men's category since 2015. Last year, McGill University followed in the footsteps of 2015 winners UQAM from Montreal.

In the women's category, TUFE from Tianjin, China won the inaugural edition while the Lithuanian Sports University put Europe on the FISU map in 2016.

The event will feature several familiar faces for the 3x3 fans. 

Charlotte Van Kleef (VU University Amsterdam) is ranked 14th in the world in the women's FIBA 3x3 rankings and has represented the Netherlands at the FIBA 3x3 World Cup 2016. She also won silver at the 2014 Youth Olympic Games.

Her team-mates Evi Dekker and Lindsay Pengel have also represented the country at the FIBA 3x3 U18 World Cup.

In the men's category, Pelita Harapan University (INA) star Rivaldo Pangesthio represented Indonesia at the FIBA 3x3 World Cup 2016 and 2017. He also played in the FIBA 3x3 professional circuit, at the FIBA 3x3 World Tour Utsunomiya Masters back in 2016.

Moreover, 3x3 FISU World University League reigning champ Sebastian Beckett (McGill) actually competed at the World Tour this season. He led Team Montreal to 10th place at the Saskatoon Masters.

The winners of the men's category will get a chance to play at the Mexico City Masters on September 30 - October 1.
