Tinkoff Moscow Open 3x3 Challenger Preview: The return of the European Champs

27 Jul 2017

MOSCOW (3x3 Challenger) - The 4 members of the Latvian national team who shocked the World at the FIBA 3x3 Europe Cup 2017 will try to earn their first ticket to the FIBA 3x3 World Tour at the Tinkoff Moscow Open in Moscow, Russia on July 28-29.

No less than 7 of the best 8 teams in the World will face off in Japan at the FIBA 3x3 World Tour Utsunomiya Masters this weekend. Think it means the Tinkoff Moscow Open won't be as loaded as usual? Think again!

3x3 fans will definitely keep an eye on Team Riga (LAT), featuring Europe Cup MVP Nauris Miezis, who wowed the Dutch crowd at the Europe Cup 3 weeks ago.

But we have more. Remember Lausanne Masters 2015 MVP Ovidijus Varanauskas? He's back playing 3x3 with the Vilnius team (LTU) he led to the World Tour Final 2 years ago.

Like Nacho Martin's game? The Spanish star brings a brand new Barcelona team in hopes of making it to the World Tour for the first time ever.

Four teams in the World's Top 15 will be in the Russian capital, including World Tour 2015 runner-ups Kranj (SLO) (#6), Sibiu Challenger winners Belgrade (SRB) (#10), Split (CRO) (#13) and Vitez Ecos Romari (BIH) (#14).

The 2 finalists will qualify to the Debrecen Masters on August 31 - September 1.

The 16 participating teams will also be chasing 10,000 USD in prize money.

Busy weekend for 3x3 fans all over the world: 4 more World Tour qualifiers will be held this weekend! Three of them will qualify to the Lausanne Masters (Open de France, Streetball Finals (Italy) and Sprite 3x3 Tallinn Open (Estonia)) and 1 to the Debrecen Masters (3x3 Masters Finals (Belgium). Get the popcorn ready!
