Novi Sad Al Wahda win 2016 Moscow Open

26 Jul 2016

MOSCOW (FIBA 3x3 World Tour) - Novi Sad Al Wahda (UAE) won the 2016 Moscow Open on 22-23 July 2016. Since they had already secured their ticket to the FIBA 3x3 World Tour Prague Masters, Piran (SLO) and Belgrade (SRB) will make it to the Czech capital on 6-7 August.

The two-time FIBA 3x3 World Tour winners won their second Challenger of the season in Russia, following their success at the Lipik Challenger in Croatia.

The team had a perfect 6-0 record in Moscow, despite playing last year's Moscow Open winners in the pool stage and two teams which played at the World Tour Final last season in the knock-out rounds.

In total, the event traditionally played under a bridge featured 10 (!) teams that participated in the World Tour last year and attracted teams coming all the way from Japan and Russian basketball stars Victor Keyru and Anton Ponkrashov.

Novi Sad Al Wahda defeated old rivals Piran in the final (21-19) on a Marko Savic tip-in. The number one 3x3 player in the world Dusan Domovic Bulut led the team in scoring over the weekend but finished second overall, after Piran star Gasper Ovnik.

Dragan Bjelica aka 'Mr Crossover' finished third in scoring and led his Team Belgrade to third place.

The Moscow Open gave two tickets to the Prague Masters. However, Novi Sad Al Wahda had already secured a spot by winning the Lipik Challenger. Piran and Belgrade will therefore join the World Tour reigning champs in the Czech capital on 6-7 August.

Novi Sad Al Wahda and Piran will make their 2016 World Tour debut a week earlier - on 30-31 July - at the Utsunomiya Masters in Japan.
