SURFERS PARADISE - Day 1 of the FIBA 3x3 Pacific Championships is in the books.

Each game was hotly contested with Pacific gold on the line. Day 1 saw a strong showing from Australia's New South Wales, Cook Islands and Guam.

1st place

Australia (New South Wales) v New Caledonia

Australia's New South Wales (NSW) squad was the only team to win 6 of their first 7 games. After scoring a tournament high 19 points in game 1, they worked themselves into a nice rhythm. NSW won the next 4 games before stumbling with their only loss of the tournament against their Australian counterparts.

2nd place

Cook Islands v Fiji

Cook Islands used sharp shooting and fast-paced scoring to solidify their spot in equal 2nd with Team Guam. It will take some solid play for them to keep their position as they face 4th place Tonga #1 and 1st place Australia (NSW) before heading into finals.

3rd place

Tied for 2nd with Cook Island, Team Guam put in a strong showing on Day 1. Only losing 1 of 6 games, Guam is looking like a force to be reckoned with. If the reactions of the crowd are anything to go by, then Guam is making a great case for being the most exciting team in this year's competition.

Day 2 will see the end of the pool games before finals and the crowning of the Pacific 3x3 Champions.
