MIES - SPORSORA, the French association for representatives of the sports industry, announced on Thursday that FIBA was one of the three finalists in the "editorial coverage and media innovation" category of the 11th edition of the SPORSORA Sports Marketing Trophies for its revolutionary 3x3 basketball platform, www.3x3planet.com.
Of all 66 bids, 12 were shortlisted (three finalists in four categories) based on criteria such as the consistency of the strategy, sustainability, creativity, originality, impact and exemplarity.
A panel of 1,000 professionals of the sports industry will vote online in January and the winners will be announced on 9 February 2015.
3x3planet.com is the community website (and the mobile app) for all 3x3 basketball players that lies at the heart of the 3x3 project and which helps these players locate, register and check in playgrounds, find potential team-mates and register to events where they can earn points to climb up FIBA’s innovative 3x3 Individual World Ranking.
More than 200,000 players have already used 3x3planet.com and over 100,000 games have been registered.
Exciting, urban and innovative, 3x3 basketball is inspired by several forms of streetball played worldwide. Steered by FIBA, games see two teams of three players face off on a basketball half-court.
It was played successfully for the first time in international competition at the 2010 Youth Olympic Games in Singapore and since then has benefitted from the launch of a yearly city-based 3x3 World Tour and national-team world championships.
