3x3 superstar Guapo crowned France's best basketball player of 2022

PARIS (France) - 3x3 great Laetitia Guapo was named France's best basketball player of the year after a momentous 2022 highlighted by leading her country to glory at the Crelan FIBA 3x3 World Cup 2022 with an MVP performance.

The 26-year-old became just the second woman to claim the Alain-Gilles trophy, which was created in 2015 by the French Basketball Federation. Results in international competitions along with club performances are weighted with voting conducted through the public, five media representatives and six representatives from basketball institutions.

Guapo, who succeeded Los Angeles Clippers basketball player and Tokyo 2020 Olympics silver medalist Nicolas Batum as the award winner, was a worthy recipient having led France to a historic double at the World Cup 2022 and FIBA 3x3 Europe Cup 2022

In Antwerp, the 6ft (1.82m) tireless slasher led Les Bleues in scoring, including a team-high five points in the final against Canada as France were crowned world champions for the first time.

At the Europe Cup in Graz, Guapo finished second in scoring with 35 points overall as France beat the Netherlands in the final.

The No.4 ranked player in the world also starred on the FIBA 3x3 Women's Series 2022, where she finished third in overall scoring (136 points) in France's second-placed finish on the standings.

Her spectacular year also included being part of her dominant French basketball club Tango Bourges Basket, who won a series of titles including the FIBA EuroCup Women 2021-22
